There are many fruit liqueurs in Japan, each associated with a fruit as Umeshu or plum liquor, the oldest and best known of the japanese liquor. In Japan it's not uncommon to make its own liquor from fresh fruit macerated in sake or shochu. They are so entrenched in the culture that more than being enjoyed as an aperitif or digestive, they are also sometimes associated with food such as Yuzushu (lemon liqueur) with fish.
