Akkeshi Single Malt Peated Kanro is the very first single malt bottled by the Akkeshi distillery founded in 2016 in 70cl format after the success of Akkeshi Single Malt Lightly Peated Sarorunkamuy bottled in 20cl format. This whisky, the first in the "24 Solar term series", inspired by the ancient Asian calendar where a year is divided into 24 solar seasons, was distilled, aged, blended and bottled in Japan.

The fine and distinguished nose of Akkeshi Single Malt Peated Kanro reveals notes of red fruits, smoked malt and rye bread, which are joined on the palate by aromas of strawberry, orange, pepper, lemon and chocolate. The creamy texture highlights the peat that lingers on to the finish and whose saltiness goes wonderfully well with the oysters produced in the region.

Nicknamed as "Little Lagavulin", Akkeshi distillery is located on the seafront facing the Pacific Ocean, and is surrounded by swamps giving a direct access to local peat. This similarity with the environment of the island of Islay strongly marks the character of this young single malt expressing a delicate, ample and above all peaty profile.

The distillery

The distillery Akkeshi

Founded in 2013 by the Kenten Company, Akkeshi Distillery is sometimes referred to as the little Lagavulin for its similarities to the famous Scottish distillery.

Akkeshi is the second Japanese whisky distillery based on the island of Hokkaido after the famous Yoichi distillery of Nikka. Like its neighbor, it is inspired by the Scottish spirit with its pair of Forsyths traditional pot stills and the use of peated barley to produce single malts with a strong peaty character like those of Islay.
