Tatenokawa Shuryu Junmai Daiginjo is a sake brewed by the Tatenokawa House located in Yamagata Prefecture and dating back to 1832.

Made with 50% polished Yamada Nishiki sake rice, a combination of Sake Yeast Society No.9 and an aroma-producing yeast, this sake reveals a balanced profile with a full-bodied flavor. A product of rare beauty, the floral and fruity aromas and umami expressed by this daiginjo were awarded a silver medal at the International Wine Challenge in 2015 and 2016.

Its balance makes this sake an ideal accompaniment to white meat dishes as well as white fish such as cod, pollack or sole.

Tatenokawa was founded in 1832 by Heishiro, a local man, in a region known for the quality of its water, which is used to make shubo (sake leaven). It is only in 1854 that he started to produce sake which he offered to the local lord, who appreciated it and gave it the name of Tatenokawa. Today, the brewery is a small kura, composed of five people, which keeps the tradition alive by producing quality sake in a traditional way.
