Nikka Coffey Gin

Nikka Coffey Gin is a rich and soft Japanese gin whose texture is rather silky and refined. It is made from a corn distillate and a malted barley distillate produced at the Miyagikyo distillery. In addition to traditional herbs such as juniper berries, its astonishing complexity is based on refreshing notes of Japanese citrus fruits such as Yuzu, Kabosu, Shikuwasa and Amanatsu, and the pleasant spiciness of Sansho, a Japanese pepper.

Although known for its award-winning whiskies, Nikka Whisky has also been distilling since long time white spirits including gin and vodka, for the domestic market. And for the first time, the famous brand of Japanese whiskey has developed an astonishing expression of gin, 100% distilled in its Coffey-type stills.

The Coffey Stills

From the name of its inventor Aeneas Coffey, this traditional two-column still, named Coffey Still, produces quality grain whiskies originally intended for blended whiskies. Imported from Scotland in 1963, Nikka remained faithful to these traditional stills, which retain more character and give a distinct texture to modern and more efficient multi-column stills. Running these old stills requires real expertise, which Nikka continues to cultivate over the years.
