Fruit liqueurs

Fruit liquors

Based on fruits or sometimes flowers, there are many liqueurs in Japan, the most famous of which is the plum liqueur, umeshu in Japanese. Made from fruits macerated in alcohol such as shochu or more rarely sake, liqueurs are bottled with or without the whole fruits or with the fruits mixed in puree. Expressing very intense fruity aromas, liqueurs can be enjoyed neat with ice cubes, or with sparkling water, or as an ingredient in a cocktail.
